Project description

KeyBridge is a residential house project located in the very heart of London, in the prestigious Vauxhall district. The design boasts the characteristic high-rise style with elements of Manhattan architecture, brought to life with bricks - a traditional element of British architecture. The extensive lifespan of brick as a material was the most important factor in their selection; the appearance of brick buildings improves over time thanks to the signs of aging, beautifully formed as a result of the effects of the weather. The project includes two buildings - 22-floor KeyBridge House and 37-floor KeyBridge Lofts, which is the tallest brick residential building in the United Kingdom. The two buildings have a total of 70 different residences of varying sized, ranging from small studios to spacious four-room luxury apartments.

“Skonto Plan” carried out the design, production and installation works of glazed aluminium facades, window/door blocks, Terracota cladding, aluminium cladding, metal railings, SFS and facade elements with brick cladding. Before the mass production of elements of facade structures, “Skonto Plan” developed a prototype model for the project. Considering that the design provides for non-standard technical solutions that have not been tested in practice, we performed in-depth air pressure, water-tightness and load testing on the prototype, which is prerequisite for the start of mass production. Tests were conducted in collaboration with the world’s leading supplier of aluminium systems. All required tests were passed without remarks, which is an excellent result and a guarantee that the facade elements of the building will serve as intended. In total, 1500 facade elements were delivered to the KeyBridge site, the elements were pre-produced to optimize the installation work on site. Each element was up to 2.5 meters wide and up to 3.5 meters height, the weight reaching up to one ton. All elements, including the decorative brick finishing was manufactured at “Skonto Plan” Tukums plant.

The new experience gave the company’s employees new impressions about material testing and strengthened the capacity of “Skonto Plan” specialists to implement event the most complex projects in Western Europe.
